You're either insane or a saint; you're filthy rich or highly irresponsible. You've got gobs of patience and reek of organizational skills, but apparently you don't know what causes THAT. If people accuse you of all this and more, you must have TONS OF KIDS, and you've just found your home on the web! Welcome, all those with 5 kids or more, to the forum where you just might finally be understood!

~Tammy~ w/7 . What question is nearest to your heart this morning? - cowmomba 08/30/2010 09:15

Penelope 10... Trying to not let so many emotions tug at me - gelsum 08/30/2010 10:07

Debbie with 7. Question of the week: After 5 years of the sky falling every other month or so, will we get a break soon? (nt) - DebJZ 08/30/2010 15:52

Sending hugs your way, Debbie. Hope things will be looking up soon. (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:21

Not trying to make light of this... - carlymac 08/30/2010 10:24

Carol, I was wondering how DH was liking the new job - there is always talk of kids, houses, schools, and I forget to ask how he likes it there? (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 08/30/2010 10:33

He's still pretty new (rookie!) but is advancing as planned. Big announcement about his position change is coming tomorrow. So I can't divulge any details yet. He's going to be one busy man! (nt) - carlymac 08/30/2010 10:45

Tapping foot...Carol, you going to share any more? (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:22

Announcement delayed just a bit longer but... - carlymac 08/31/2010 23:10

Oh I can ... maybe.... help with at leart one of those questions! - cowmomba 08/30/2010 10:48

Thanks! We'll have to try that one. I'm also wondering how much difference diet makes. There could be some improvement in this area for sure! (nt) - carlymac 08/30/2010 13:51

I think hormones are the biggest factor in acne. I suppose diet could affect hormones, which in turn could cause less or more acne. (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:27

Ugh- DS developed acne around Christmas on his back primarily. Really bad. Tried everything we could. Dermatologist even. She just upped the treatment ante, but it's at a cost of $145 a month to us. For acne??? I hate to say it, but he may just have to suffer thru it. (nt) - zookeeper 08/30/2010 13:56

Carol, why do you think something is going on with your son in the Springs? Just curious. It is so hard watching our kids go through difficult situations, like eating lunch and no friends. (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:23

Nothing in particular... - carlymac 08/31/2010 23:02

how much longer does he have? (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/01/2010 07:44

Just under 10 months. (nt) - carlymac 09/01/2010 08:19

nancy w/ 6 - - nancys6kids1dog 08/30/2010 10:42

Saw the path on Earl this morning on the weather channel. Too early to tell though, huh? Hope you're all spared! (Where did the stormy icon go?) (nt) - carlymac 08/30/2010 12:03

Nancy, try to enjoy the rest of your summer. (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:24

I'm just wondering if this house will ever achieve "normalcy" again. We are neck-deep in STUFF, trying to muck through it before the newlyweds leave and the Chinese kid arrives this evening. I've discovered a new friend in coffee, over the last few weeks. Hugs to you, Tammy! (nt) - Nosewiper 08/30/2010 11:47

It seems like after every "major life event", getting to a "new normal" takes awhile. HUGS! (nt) - cowmomba 08/30/2010 12:32

tonight?!(that goes to Jenn's statement!) (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 08/30/2010 17:47

Every day is the new normal, isn't it???? You never go back. So tell us about your new kid. (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:28

Some of it's trivial, some of it not. - zookeeper 08/30/2010 14:03

Not to be too nosy but... - DebJZ 08/30/2010 15:49

Yep, that was my GYN's first statement too. Sex starts in the head, not the body. - zookeeper 08/30/2010 22:00

Question here... - carlymac 08/30/2010 22:54

The advise I sought was more what was going on in my heart, not so much the physical. - zookeeper 08/31/2010 08:42

Stacey, I'm sorry you are in this situation. I went through something similar - live4truth13 08/31/2010 22:05

Priests are good for advise because they have to figure out how to abstain and master their own sex drive. They are also good for advise - DebJZ 08/31/2010 05:57

When is that grandbaby going to come??? - Kanga 08/31/2010 09:59

Ya, when IS that grandbaby going to come. Best wishes for a short and efficient L&D for her. (nt) - carlymac 08/31/2010 16:56

When is the actual due date? So exciting! (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:29

Tammy, any news? Do you have any idea when you will get news? (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:19

Nope.... - cowmomba 09/01/2010 13:09

2. What do your kids typically wear to school? How strict or lenient are the dress codes? (nt) - carlymac 08/30/2010 21:51 (6)

Our elementary and middle school are pretty strict ie. no shorts or skirts a fingertip above the knee, no tanks, no objectionable sayings on shirts, no rips, no 'gym' shorts. At the high school anything, including pj's , (I saw that one) is ok. My kids usually wear jeans and a t. Not fashion mavens here. (nt) - joyofsix 08/31/2010 06:02

Ours is similar to Lisa's, except HS is the same as elem.... but they seem more relaxed on some of the points in their enforcement. Also no chains/hats/unnatural hair color/bandanas and no flannel pants as they look like PJs.. & no midriff shown. Mine usually wear jeans/khakis and a T or some other shirt. #2 dresses up more, occasionaly they wear dresses or scooter skirts. (nt) - gelsum 08/31/2010 08:58

well - Christian school has uniforms - loosened that this year to any brand uniform bottoms (used to have to be from a certain company which was very expensive), public HS: is extensive if you read it, but in practical terms: (none of the "bad" things listed above) girls have to have 4 finger wide coverage on their shoulders, shorts aren't supposed to be short, but they are, they can wear flip flops, no bare bellies - no a/c in the HS, so Bri will wear shorts for a month or so til it cools down. (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 08/31/2010 09:15

Our public schools instituted a uniform policy four years ago. Students wear: khaki, navy or black pants (shorts, skorts or skirts allowed but must be knee length); any solid color polo, oxford, turtle neck or mock turtle neck (no stripes, patterns, designs) must be tucked in unless there is at least a two-inch elastic band at bottom of garment; solid color black, brown, navy or white belts must be worn with garments that have belt loops (elementary kids exempt); socks, tights, leggings, etc. any solid color; dress or casual shoes any solid color worn correctly. No logos are allowed on any part of uniform except shoes may have small logos. (nt) - ckmom 08/31/2010 10:16

"Short shirts, low-cut tops, bare midriffs, “low rise pants”, pajamas, off-the- shoulder tops, tops with spaghetti straps, extremely short mini-skirts or shorts, see through garments or shirts with inappropriate messages are not allowed. Clothing must be worn in such a manner as to cover all undergarments and not be too revealing or provocative. When your hand is by your side shorts must reach the tip of the thumb; skirts must reach the tip of the middle finger. Footwear must be worn at all times." Typically my kids wear tshirts/polos and jeans/shorts. Flip flops are allowed for middle and high schoolers. (nt) - zookeeper 08/31/2010 10:28

3. This morning my dd found a stolen purse and wallet RIGHT outside our living room window. It was taken from a house about 1/2 mile away. Geesh, I live in a really small town here. I can't believe these creeps stopped outside MY house to dump it. I never even lock our house. I guess they knew we didn't have anything worth taking. (nt) - joyofsix 08/31/2010 10:43 (4)

That is scary. (nt) - gelsum 08/31/2010 10:55

Yikes!~ That is very scary. Did you talk to the police? (nt) - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:17

Yes, we returned the purse and the owner told the (notice it's singular) cop who came and talked to us. It was a 'major crime wave' for our tiny town. Drugs no doubt but it makes me so mad. (nt) - joyofsix 09/01/2010 02:52

4. How much do you help your college child? - gelsum 08/31/2010 11:07 (6)

Everything is more dramatic in the moment... - DebJZ 08/31/2010 12:14

personally, I would draw the line.. - nancys6kids1dog 08/31/2010 13:11

Good News! - gelsum 08/31/2010 18:20

See, you prepared her well mama. (nt) - joyofsix 08/31/2010 20:52

Glad to hear it worked out. Yeah, in college, there isn't much you can do to step in for your kids. If you try to contact anyone about what is going on, you most likely will get the response that, "the student is 18 and as an issue of privacy, the situation can NOT be discussed with anyone but said student." - live4truth13 08/31/2010 21:16

5. Nancy and others on the east coast...what can you expect to happen inland if a hurricane hits your state? Anyone right on the coast? (Mods-I need some weather icons!!) (nt) - carlymac 09/01/2010 10:52 (11)

Looks like N. Carolina and then New England/Nova Scotia have the biggest threat if it makes landfall. It's supposed to stay out to sea though..... - shel 09/01/2010 15:55

The last big hurricane that hit the North East was Bob I believe. That was a 2. Gloria, back in the 80s, was a 3 when it hit Long Island. Both caused billion$ of damage. Hate to say it, but the north east is "due" for their decade hurricane. (nt) - zookeeper 09/01/2010 20:12

ok - was just checking the Weather Channel - they list the 5 most overdue cities - 5 was Atlantic City (due east of us), #2 was NYC - not far (relatively) from us, and #1 is Miami/Ft Lauderdale (just below my boys who live on the coast...) I'm not feeling comforted in any way! lol (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/01/2010 20:33

ok, local news now saying 40-50 mph winds inland as far as we are. - yikes! (there goes what's left of our gutter! lol) (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/01/2010 22:07

Oye! I'm not a big fan of wind. (So why did I move to SE Idaho??) Batten down the hatches and stay safe. (nt) - carlymac 09/01/2010 22:47

we normally have NO wind/breeze anything here - air is usually still - which we don't realize til we go somewhere else - like Kansas! - the news said "steady breeze between 20 and 30 mph! " lol - breeze? to us that is nearly a tropical storm! lol - so to us, any breeze is a big deal (we get heavy wind w/ thunder storms, but usually nothing on a clear day) - we are now under tropical storm warnings (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/02/2010 11:06

Hi Nancy...if you are under TS warnings, I would suggest being ready for power outages.... - shel 09/02/2010 14:10

our neighborhood at least is usually pretty lucky since all of our power lines, cable, etc are underground - they've backed off a little now - don't even think we'll get rain! - the shore will take a pounding, but Earl will be on the run when he passes NJ! (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/02/2010 17:45

That's good...looks like Earl is weakening quickly too. (nt) - shel 09/02/2010 19:36

I just got home and missed the evening news, but last I heard, it is staying off the coast for us - thankfully - we are supposed to get very rough surf (which is disastrous for all of the towns that have spent millions on beach replenishment) - there were rip current warnings already - (I'm about 60 miles inland on the west side of S Jersey (near Philly) so unless it really comes inland, we don't expect anything) - correction : just heard that 80 miles inland will get strong winds... (yeah, what happened to that "stormy" icon?? lol) (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/01/2010 17:35

6. Wanna see a cute baby? - carlymac 09/01/2010 14:20 (11)

AWWWW! (nt) - cowmomba 09/01/2010 14:56

Oh, he is adorable! No wonder you want to show him off! :-) (nt) - shel 09/01/2010 15:58

awwww!! - its a shame they don't feed him! ; ) LOL - look at those chubby arms and face - I could just eat him up! no wonder you miss him so much!! he is just adorable!! (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/01/2010 17:29

17 lb. at his 4 1/2 month check up! She makes cream just like I did. They skinny down once they start crawling and walking. (nt) - carlymac 09/02/2010 13:27

That's not a baby- that's a perfect little cherub! (nt) - zookeeper 09/01/2010 20:08

A face like that just makes me smile. So cute & so happy. Enjoy him! (nt) - momto6 09/01/2010 21:55

I would but he's 1600 miles away! Wahhh!! Maybe Caroline and Lisa could though since he lives in their state. (nt) - carlymac 09/02/2010 13:30

(nt) - ckmom 09/04/2010 18:35

Aww, I want to sniff that baby head fuzz. (nt) - joyofsix 09/02/2010 05:25

DOLL! (nt) - gelsum 09/02/2010 13:17

7. My refrigerator is fixed! La La My refrigerator is fixed! - gelsum 09/02/2010 13:17 (2)

Yay for you!! (nt) - carlymac 09/02/2010 13:25

8. Nuther question. Do you just let your kids up and quit something they've worked hard at? - carlymac 09/02/2010 13:21 (7)

And here's the contrast- - carlymac 09/02/2010 13:24

It depends on the kid. If it's one of my kids that's not prone to just quitting, then I'm more likely to listen to them. If it's one of my kids that is very flighty that way, then I'm more inclined to making them stick it out. - zookeeper 09/02/2010 13:51

I would agree... - DebJZ 09/02/2010 14:18

Well... - gelsum 09/02/2010 14:23

Yep, I agree with all of that. (nt) - Kanga 09/03/2010 10:31

No advice, but do tell her the story of your friend Jenn, who was just shamed by her 16yo violin-playing Chinese son...(m) - Nosewiper 09/03/2010 15:44

9. Feeling melancholic today... - DebJZ 09/03/2010 13:51 (3)

I'm feeling REALLY cranky...the 2 little girls have done nothing but fight today - (usually squabble, but this is all out screaming) - they've lost tv for the day and now I'm looking for chores... and ONE of them ate the Reese cup I had hidden next to my computer...ugh! (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/03/2010 14:01

Wiping baseboards and chair legs are good chores for littles. Matching socks and folding wash cloths. (nt) - cowmomba 09/03/2010 14:27

10. well, my girls are gearing up for the big first day back at school on Wednesday - and then public school is closed Thursday for the holiday - so they're all planning to back down the shore on Thurs (they'll all be sunburned on Friday! lol) - (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/03/2010 17:14 (10)

I feel stupid for having to ask but what holiday is on Thursday? (nt) - ckmom 09/03/2010 18:12

Rosh Hashanah (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/03/2010 18:16

I think we had this discussion earlier this year or maybe last year, but our schools don't get that day off. We started August 23, and we have Labor Day off. Not off again after that until Fall Break toward the end of October. (nt) - ckmom 09/03/2010 19:18

we don't get a fall break - but we get teacher's convention - which is 11/4&5 (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/03/2010 22:16

They used to get 1/2 days off M-W for parent-teacher conferences the same week as Fall Break (which is Thurs & Fri), but last year the state passed legislation that no 1/2 days are allowed. So, now teachers get 8 hours of substitute time available to them so they can conduct conferences. (nt) - ckmom 09/04/2010 18:34

I think the public elem school gets 1/2 days M, T, and all day W the week of Thanksgiving for conferences - the convention is all NJ public school teachers and thankfully, the Christian school teacher's convention is the same time this year (it isn't always) (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/04/2010 18:45

Oh, I see. We had those kind of days off when I was a kid. They called them teachers in-service then. The legislation passed last year included a provision for no days off for professional development either. We used to have a 1/2 day the first Wednesday of almost every month. (nt) - ckmom 09/04/2010 19:11

well, the (public school) teacher convention is in Atlantic City (needless to say, there isn't much professional development) - all the teachers that I have ever talked to have never been to the convention - I think it is for the militant union teachers - the Christian school convention is in DC - one year they went to a more local one in Lancaster PA (Amish country) - but they all actually go- lol (nt) - nancys6kids1dog 09/04/2010 21:51

Oh Wow Atlantic City! Lol! (nt) - ckmom 09/05/2010 10:44
